Harry’s Redwood Redesign
The Problem
I opted to redesign the Harry’s Redwood body wash bottle to enhance its overall aesthetic, as I believe there are opportunities for improvement. While the existing logo effectively serves its purpose, the design does not give viewers the feeling of a redwood forest, which is a key aspect of the brand's identity. An updated design would not only refresh the product but also help maintain consumer interest and attract new customers.
The Solution
To change the simple design on the bottle to something more eye catching:
The logo representing the scent needed to be revamped
Information about scent and ingredients needed to be reorganized and moved
Fonts and font size needed to be adjusted to create hierarchy
The main goal of this redesign was to create a more appealing bottle, that would stand out on a shelf when compared to competitors.
My Design Process
Step 1: Research
Competitor analysis
My redesign process started with background research of other body wash products, to allow me to expand my knowledge of other popular designs in the market as well as to help brainstorming. I examined various competing body wash brands, studying specific design choices such as the colors used as well as logos to identify different scents from one another
Step 2: Building
Sketches
Once I felt satisfied with the background research I gathered, I began sketching possible designs for the bottle. Some designs drew from the original concept, but instead with a more blown up logo. At this point in time, I mainly just focused on the imagery on the bottle as that is something that attracts the eye of customers.
User Research
I looked into the main target of Harry’s body wash, which it seems to be mainly aimed towards male consumers. In retail stores, it is primarily found among other products designed for men.
Finished design/prototype
With sketching completed, I chose three sketches i wanted to focus on and used Illustrator to create them. I started by creating small details like the trees for the cover, then began working with fonts and hierarchy.
After choosing the final design I liked the best, I used a bottle of harry’s as a prototype with my design wrapped around. This allowed to get a visual idea of how the design would look when place on a 3D object, and allowed for me to notice any areas where I needed to make change
