GOAT App Redesign
The Problem
I chose to redesign elements of the GOAT app after noticing that its user interface was cluttered and overwhelming, with too much information competing for attention. Additionally, I identified potential accessibility issues due to the small button sizes, which could make navigation difficult for some users. My redesign aimed to create a more user-friendly experience by improving navigation flow and enhancing accessibility.
The Solution
To transform the GOAT app into a more user friendly product:
Home page needs to be reorganized and simplified
Small text and buttons need to be expanded
Spacing needs to be increased between images and text
The main goal of this redesign is to change the layout of the home page as well as other pages that have a confusing layout as well as have too much information grouped together.
My Design Process
Step 1: Research
Competitor analysis
I began by looking into other fitness apps and comparing them to the GOAT app, to get an idea of what was done differently. Other apps had more simplified home pages, where items were organized into different categories instead of everything being lumped together. I also analyzed the GOAT website which shares the similar design of having everything together on the homepage with small text.
Step 2: Building
Sketches and Wireframes
Once I had finished with background research, I moved on to sketching and wireframing. I created simple sketches that just showed off the overall layout I aimed to create for the redesign, and created notes of differences to original.
I aimed to keep details to a minimum to draw more focus to the overall layout as well as how the pages flow into one another. I only used pencil and thin sharpie for highlights to eliminate the distraction of color as well.
User Research
My next step was researching who uses the GOAT app, how often, and for what purpose. The GOAT app’s primary purpose is for people to buy and sell high end shoes as well as clothing. This means users are people who are either buying, selling or doing both.
Interface Design and Prototyping
With the sketching and wireframes done, the next step was moving to Figma where I started to build the layouts for the different pages. Using my sketches I crafted the different pages of the app, fixing the main issues I pointed out. I carefully followed the color scheme and design choices of GOAT, while also fixing those issues.
I then moved to prototyping my design through Figma, allowing others to test out my app and give me feedback on things I should change and what they liked. This helped me go back and narrow don small details I missed in my first design and fix the issues for my final product.
